I once read that the very first thing you do in the morning sets the tone for your entire day. You may press ‘snooze’ over and over, scroll through your e-mail or Instagram, or rush to your computer to begin your day. Last year, I rushed to my computer to begin my day — and it led to serious overwhelm. This year, I have designed a morning routine I really love; it has helped me to feel super balanced, happy, and healthy. . . and I’m excited to share it with you today!
My Morning Routine
- 6:00 – 6:30 AM
I wake up! I use the ‘Bedtime’ option for iPhone, which provides a gentle wake-up! I head to my office, visit Tone It Up, and complete a 30-minute workout. I try to drink 2 to 4 8-ounce cups of water before, during, and after my workout.
- 6:30 – 7:00 AM
I get ready for the workday! I shower, do my hair and make-up, make a smoothie (I’ll be sure to share the recipe soon!) and put on real clothing. Because I work from home, I do my best to always wear real clothing — rather than workout clothing or loungewear. While they’re incredibly comfortable (Like, the most comfortable!) real clothing helps me to feel ready to conquer the workday.
- 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM
I read my scripture card of the week, pray, and assess my workday! At With Grace and Gold, we use a project management system I can’t get enough of. I look through our e-mail Inbox and look through our project management system — which allows me to make a plan for the day. I always find that assessing my workday before jumping in helps me to begin the day with a clear mind and with peace of mind.
- 8:00 AM.
I make a mug of tea! After finishing my smoothie and assessing my workday, I make a mug of tea and begin my workday. There is something so soothing about having tea — and it’s so nice to begin the day in a calm and relaxing way.
Since designing my morning routine, I’ve experienced much less stress and overwhelm. I’m able to take care of myself, so I can take the best care of the relationships, friendships, and projects I care about most. I used to feel such a sense of pressure to work, work, work — but now I know that, in order to produce my best work, I have to be good to myself first and foremost!
Do you have a morning routine? I’d love to hear about it!
